College freshman Jeep Trembley can’t wait to transfer to a better school. All he needs are better marks. Too bad he can’t concentrate. On anything. Especially not when his raging hormones are out of control, his best friend is his belligerent conscience and one of his teachers is a sadist who’d rather insult students than lecture them.
Bright but painfully shy, Jeep’s monotonous days consist of endless schoolwork, incoherent self-rambling and inappropriate thoughts of his classmate Melody. When opportunity strikes and he gets a chance to tutor her, it finally puts him on her radar. But after Chase—the school’s prodigious football quarterback—urges him to join the team; it also attracts the attention of the provocatively flirtatious April.
Juggling a blossoming romance with April while fighting off strong feelings for Melody is one thing, Jeep also has to deal with Melody’s jealous boyfriend and the added pressure of playing under the football microscope while drawing unflattering comparisons to his talented brother Brent; reminding him that life is nothing but a series of sine waves. When everything starts spiraling out of control, Jeep’s foundation begins to gyrate by the roots, raising the question: can he even survive the semester?
Enter the erratic, ADD riddled mind of Jeep Trembley in this quirky, fast paced first person narrative by first time author Martin Reed.

Strong first novel, funny and moving with an authentic protagonist
By Christina (Ensconced in Lit)
I received a request from the author to review this book in exchange for an honest review.
This book centers around the protagonist, Jeep Trembley, a nerd that has never gotten laid and his journey through a year at a state school. We are in Jeep's head the whole time, hearing every thought separated by the minutes that he thinks them. He lives in the shadow of a famous brother and a family tragedy, and surprisingly joins the football team against all odds, and falls for a beautiful girl. What follows is both hilarious and moving all at the same time as he ventures through the year and discovers more about the people around him and ultimately, about himself.
I was really surprised by this book. I've been receiving a lot of duds lately, and this one definitely caught me from the first page. For the first 30%, I laughed out loud so many times that my husband wanted to know what I was reading. I'm not a guy, but I felt like Jeep's voice was very authentic. Several of the characters were surprising and all the male characters ended up being three dimensional, which I loved. Several of the twists in the story I was not anticipating, and I'm glad those steps were made.
Issues I had, which were mainly personal preferences. I felt like while all the male characters were deftly drawn and three dimensional, I wasn't as into the women characters. Melody was a prime example-- she was a sweet girl, but Jeep is so smart-- would she really hold his interest forever? I also thought some moments with his brother Brent were heavy handed and were a little too close plot wise to A League of Their Own.
That said, I blazed through the book from start to finish and was really drawn into the story by the authentic voice. I look forward to future work by Martin Reed.

Very funny, but with an emotional twist at the end. Great read!

My Disjointed Life is about a young man experiencing his first semester of college. He was never a popular kid, more of a brainiac. He enjoys science and is going into engineering.
Jeep is socially awkward and doesn't fit in well in social situations. He usually says what's on his mind - most of the time without meaning to. He also has an inner voice that speaks to him, usually putting him down for being an "idiot". It brought a lot of humor to the novel which I loved.
As he makes his way through his first semester of college, he has many up and down times involving friends, enemies, girls, family, and extracurricular activities.
The relationships he has with his friends, acquaintances, and significant others are all different in special ways. I will not go into detail on that because it is more fun to read and experience it first hand.
"Maybe the reason I get stepped on so much by people is because I let them."
I think all readers can find a little of themselves in Jeep. He is a kind-hearted, yet extremely horny, young adult trying to make sense of life. Things don't always come easy for him, though.
"The reasons are simple enough, but the truth always comes layered with complexity and consequence."
Martin Reed did an excellent job writing this novel. It is witty, realistic, and explicit at times, but overall funny and a good, light-hearted read. It was divided up into segments by time. I have never read another book like that, it made it much easier to get through the chapters, because of course I am not a fan of long chapters. So, having that technique as a way to break up the text made it very easy for me to get through.
I found myself actually not wanting to finish the book, because I enjoyed it so much.
I included a few of my favorite quotes from the text in the review above as well.
4/5 Stars! A little slow at some points, but was a very fun read that I enjoyed a lot.

Wonderful
By TrueJDK
Synopsis - My Disjointed Life is the diary-style story of one Jeep Trembley, US student, struggling to focus on his school work. Unfortunately, fighting for his scant attention span are a conflicting group of friends, classes, and women (although not all of them know it). Over the course of a semester, Jeep's days are detailed as he faces up to life, love, loss and getting laid.
As ever I can, as ever I must, I will strive to bring balance to a review with the good, the bad, and (where appropriate) the ugly. There's a couple of problems here - Reed misses commas when he needs to have them in... Umm... give me a minute, I may think of more.
Seriously, this is one of those rare books that make wading through trash worth doing. There's a lot of arguments about self-published authors and quality, and how reviewers and readers should go easy on them. Then, something like this turns up. It's not only exceedingly well-written, but it also strikes a nerve with the reader.
This is, in fact, one of the very, very few books in my life which I found unputdownable (if that's not a word, I'm making it one). Most of my reading is done on the train to and from work, and then I switch off at home. Not so with this book. I genuinely couldn't wait to read more.
The characters, the dialogue, the situations all read true without being forced. Jeep's smart-ass internal dialogue keeps things grounded. Not every question is answered (hey, welcome to real life). Relationships progress and develop nicely and credibly. The supporting characters (as they do in most books and TV shows) are wonderful, relatable and entertaining. Friendships and familial relationships strike true.
Jeep himself is a great character. Flawed, but wanting better. Struggling despite himself, and knowing that he's his own worst enemy. The more I read, the more I want him to succeed.
Hell, even the American Football (I refuse to call it football. You want to call it football? Use your feet!) scenes gripped me. And I'm British!
Perhaps it's because I found I could identify with the book, the situations and the characters so easily that I enjoyed it as much as I did. And I did identify with it - the break-up scene, for example, is one of the most beautifully brutal and honest moments I've read, and struck uncomfortably true. Regardless of the reason, I did enjoy it. And I would thoroughly recommend it.
Does it have flaws? Yes. Outside of the "friend zone", all women worth mentioning are incredibly, jaw-droppingly hot. A reference feels forced, as it foreshadows a later revelation. But that's about it.
Overall, a delightful find. And it's books like this which will redeem the negative reputation self-published authors have unfairly gained.
Bravo, sir. You have created something wonderful. But, please. No sequels. Leave this exactly as it stands.
