About the Author
New York Times bestselling author Catherine Bybee was raised in Washington State, but after graduating high school, she moved to Southern California in hopes of becoming a movie star. Delightful yet surprisingly believable romp

Sam (Samantha) Elliott is an all-American blue blood born with a silver spoon but down on her luck. What follows is an absolutely delightful yet surprisingly believable romp through the machinations that is modern day love and society.

If one has ever wondered whatever happened to all those Dukes and Earls from our favorite historical romances, look no further! In "Wife By Wednesday", Ms. Bybee has successfully taken the ever popular regency tome' of titles, heirs money and inheritances, transplanted it into contemporary society and turned it on its ear! The writing is down-to-earth, girl-next-door readable, the dialogue quick, witty with just enough snark to make it pop and the romance is a sweet, slightly steamy treat! It's pure escapism, feel good fun that makes a reader happy for the pure pleasure of indulging.

disappointing

I was surprised to see all the good reviews for this story. It's a reasonably cute story, as popcorn romances go, but it really could have used at least one more editing pass. Not only are there a large numbers of typos, but more than a few plot or character inconsistencies. First the main character's friend/employee is living with the main character because she doesn't have a place of her own and sometimes stays with her boyfriend, then the friend is kicking the boyfriend out of her place so the main character can stay with her. The main character learns immediately that the guy's worst enemy is his cousin, then later seems shocked to learn they don't get along. Things like this are all over the place. Not to mention, the main guy is portrayed at first as a cool, emotionless player who has two girlfriends at once, but from the moment he meets the main (female) character, all of that is gone, and that part of his personality never shows itself again, which is both unrealistic and inconsistent. Overall, a pretty disappointing read.

Wife by Wednesday - grabs you from the title and pulls you into a wonderful tale of an arragned marriage...well more of a business contract. Blake needs a wife to fulfil the terms of his father's will and gain his inheritance. Sam agrees but neither of them expect keeping the contract to be as hard as it is.

In this story, Ms. Bybee has brought to life two engaging characters, a conniving villain and a series of obstacles which leave you turning the pages with eager anticipation to find out what happens next. The first non-historical one I have read, it's no less engaging than her time travel books. If you love those, then this one is not to be missed.

OFF THE ICE (THE PENALTY KILL TRILOGY 2) by LINDSAY PAIGE & MARY SMITH

Book 1 of this trilogy I truly enjoyed and I got so excited when I found out that book 2 is live. Off The Ice is what I would like to think a book that readers of this trilogy is anticipating. We got to know the characters and how they made up in book 1 but in this story, we see em growing as mature individuals and how their relationship grew since book 1. It was nice to know that they are moving forward and that their life as individuals is progressing. Presley confronted her parents and let it all out to em while Levi is struggling to find some peace of mind since his Dad’s heart attack. But the good thing is, they are helping each other through and through but by the end of the book, their future is a bit blurry because Levi is off to his professional hockey dream & Presley will be left behind.

I like the fact that there is less drama in this book. I mean, when it comes to Levi & Presley. They are stable & emotionally secure with each other and I like reading stories with that kind of feel.

I can’t wait for book 3 and what future holds for em. :)

A valuable companion for backpain sufferers

I have recently purchased the latest version of this book, as I happened to see a new cover on the same title and author. The content is the same but the book is laid out slightly differently.
I purchased a much older version 20 years ago to find solace when my back was at its worse. And I surely did.
It helped me to regain confidence that back pain can be overcome. Since then it sits in my bedside drawer, ready when needed. It is a book of knowledge and a real cure if you are ready to experiment with its content. It helps you understanding your pain through descriptions brought to you in simple terms and assistance you can count on. It is written for layman.
I strongly recommend it not only for the ones in need, but also as a prevention before the pain takes you over. Thank you Mr Norfok.

Well organized. Very useful.

Ordered this book because I have been a long time follower of the News To Live By blog and have always found it very helpful. It combines some of the best advice from the blog with a bunch of new useful information. It is very well organized, everything is easy to find, and it provides a ton of useful information. In addition to templates for each letter/email/message/conversation, there are summaries of reasoning behind everything. I learned about some mistakes I have been making for years!

Danny's tips on best practices for writing cover letters and resumes completely changed my approach to job applications. Several employers (including my current one) indicated that my cover letter was the reason they gave me a second look, from a pile of similar looking letters and resumes. His individualized system is easy to adapt, and frankly makes applying for jobs more about self exploration and finding a job that matches your best traits. Can't recommend it enough!

Relevant, insightful, accessible

I work with Millennial high school and college students, and I'm very glad this book has come along. It has already been helpful in supporting my students--and me--in developing better professional communication skills. I especially appreciate Rubin's advice on eliminating "filler" words like "amazing," "definitely," and "literally." I'd say the book is "definitely amazing," but I guess I'll just stick with relevant, insightful, and accessible.

Excellent for beginners; useful for the more experienced

This fine collection of essays is essential a compilation, somewhat edited, of the weekly column on food and wine by Asimov that appears in "The New York Times". Readers who know the column may find the book useful, especially the Kindle version, which makes it very easy to find either a food or a wine that you need to match in either the grocery store or the wine shop.

As is so often the case with small-production wines, these bottles may not be so easy for everybody to find. As alternatives, I recommend any of the many cuv�es issued by La P�pi�re and Jo Landron, who also makes wine under the label Domaine de la Louvetrie. Br�geon makes fewer cuv�es, but any will be fine. In addition, any wines from these producers will also do quite well: Pierre Luneau-Papin, Domaine de L’�cu, Ch�reau-Carr� and Vincent Caill�.

Beyond oysters, Muscadet goes beautifully with a wide range of seafood. Don’t hesitate to drink it with light chicken preparations, seafood and vegetable pastas and cheeses. And please, drinking the wine too cold will mute the subtleties of these wines. If you don’t believe me, try it straight out of the refrigerator. Then try it again after it’s had 30 minutes to warm a bit. You’ll find two different wines.

I’m not a wine or food writer who tries to convince you that my job is far more difficult and unpleasant than you can imagine. I have no patience with that. How many people have the privilege of immersing themselves in what they care most deeply and passionately about?

Since I was a teenager, I’ve been fascinated by eating and drinking, and, by extension, ingredients and cooking. In the most enlightened households and cultures, wine belongs on the table as part of a meal. It’s a staple, like bread, rice, potatoes or salt, and this is the basis of how I understand wine.

Of course, wine can be so much more. Like food, wine has a social role to play. It brings people together. It can increase happiness, amplify a sense of well-being and even comfort sadness. By evoking these simple social and emotional responses, wine can be said to have a spiritual component.

Wine is also a global commodity with ups and downs that reflect the state of the wine-drinking world’s economy. It runs the gamut from mass production to artisanal craftsmanship, and so offers insight at every level to successes and failures in human organization, determination and vision. The wine business, from agriculture to winemaking to sales and education, is rich with powerful personalities.

Beyond this, wine offers culture and connoisseurship, while touching on art and philosophy. At its highest level, wine can bewitch and bewilder, transfix and inspire. Each year, new books about wine pour forth, with no end in sight, discussing and describing a beverage while using language that paradoxically struggles to articulate its appeal.

Scientists are discovering that wine can be physically beneficial. Yet wine can be dangerous, too, and out-of-control consumption can be a menace. How societies balance the benefits and the dangers of alcohol is the subject of constant revealing debate.

I find wine endlessly engaging – beer and spirits, too. Yet I don’t think of myself as a connoisseur – at least, not in the way the term is generally used to indicate a stuffy concern with old and expensive wines. Good wines all have their role, especially humble, everyday wines. Great wines occupy an exalted place because of the discussions they provoke and the context they provide, but they can never overshadow the daily pleasures of a good bottle.

From grape to glass, wine is a wonderfully expansive topic. It hurts me to see it reduced so often to tasting notes, those comically over-specific efforts to capture aromas and flavors in a phrase. If you want to know whether a wine smells more like guava or jackfruit, I’m afraid I’m not your guy. Frankly, wine is greater and more interesting than that.

An excellent introduction to wine, and a great refresher for the more experience wine lover.

I appreciate Robin Smith's work here

I really appreciate Robin Smith's summary. I find that Barnes, who wrote several sections, comments negatively (pointing out what he thinks are flaws) in the midst of what I think should be summary. I really think he should share commentary after he shares a summary. Also, I don't find Barnes to offer a balanced view, but an overly-negative one. His work on Aristotle's Rhetoric, for example, finds all kinds of things he doesn't like, but does not acknowledge the fantastically useful stuff.

Again, I find Robin Smith's work useful and dispassionate, and I thank the cambridge companion for making me aware of him; I have since picked up his translation of Topics (Books 1 & 8) and his translation of Prior Analytics.

A Profitable Resource for Novice Aristotle Students

Aristotle is one of the great names in the Western philosophical tradition. His thought was a dominant force for ten centuries in Europe, losing its preeminent role only at the dawn of the modern era in the 17th century. Medieval thinkers called him "the master of those who know." His writings are challenging and often difficult, hence the need for helpful secondary sources. This fine collection of original essays is aimed at undergraduate and graduate students new to Aristotle, but any intelligent person with some background in philosophy will find much of value here.

A strong point of this anthology is the high quality of the essays. Jonathan Barnes, the editor, is a renowned Aristotle scholar and also the editor of The Complete Works of Aristotle: The Revised Oxford Translation. In this Cambridge Companion he authors three essays, including the important chapter on metaphysics. R.J. Hankinson, our best expert on ancient philosophy of science, contributes essays on Aristotle's science and also his philosophy of science. Readers particularly interested in the latter subject will want to purchase Hankinson's authoritative work, Cause and Explanation in Ancient Greek Thought. Everson's chapter on psychology and Hutchinson's on ethics are also ones I found especially noteworthy.

Any good philosophical companion will have reader-friendly editorial adjuncts. This volume excels in this area, especially the huge bibliography. Though somewhat dated (the book was published in 1995), The 80+ pp. have over 1000 items listed. A truly valuable compendium for scholars.

For students with a desire for more advanced essays on Aristotle, I can heartily recommend The Oxford Handbook of Aristotle (ed. Christopher Shields), and my personal favorite, Essays on Aristotle's Ethics (ed. Amelie Rorty).

Simple Legal Exam System

This system is far from IRAC. IRAC gives no guidance for how to organize an exam, or what each section of IRAC really means, and so you are left to come up on your own how to fill in the gaps besides putting the issue first, rule second, application third, and then ending with a conclusion. While professors may pretend to help you better understand IRAC, it will likely be of little help because it makes grading easier if students do not know how to compose a competent exam.

Instead, it lays out a detailed system for how you should attack a legal exam by subdividing the elements of claims and then systematically looking to make sure each element is satisfied, while arguing for both sides.

Great resource to improve your grades

The single most important skill necessary for success in law school is the ability to write a well-reasoned essay examination. This system will guide you in how to structure your exam answers. Using this system made a big difference in my grades. I would recommend this system to all of my friends entering law school.

The Method for IRAC

Your professor and fellow students may say, "Just use IRAC for your essay model. Save your time and your money. " But HOW do you organize your issue, rule, analysis, and conclusion systematically? HOW do you make sure you have hit all the issues in a a given hypothetical? And,perhaps most daunting for some folks, HOW can you get it all done within the exam's time constraints?
For less than $200 and a (relatively) few hours of your law school career, you can gain the experience and confidence needed to attack fact pattern essays that might otherwise leave you panicked.

Read the Primer, listen to the lectures, work the examples and exercises. Sure, it IS just IRAC, but really it is the METHOD of exam writing and presenting IRAC that you are mastering.

Tell your competition to save their time and money, while you mess up the grading curve with your superior technique.

Wentworth Miller also offers live seminars- outside the scope of this review.

To be fair, law school in this economy, in this market, is a dubious investment. No more "golden ticket"- if there ever was one. Top grades, facility with exams, class rank, passing the bar exam on the first try, marrying the boss's daughter--do whatever you can to distinguish yourself from the pack. It can't hurt. --and you can always sell this with your rainbow colored case books to the next unsuspecting 1L with BigLaw fantasies.

Completely Enjoyable

This is the second book I've read by Susan Johnson and it won't be my last. The author combines accurate historial detail (missing from so many historical romances)with a passionate and steamy love story. I much prefer the hero in this book to Adam Serre in Pure Sin. Adam never seemed to lose his cool reserve...while Johnnie falls head over heels for Elizabeth and the love between them is incredibly touching.
My only criticism of this book would be the hurried ending. The story seems to shift from J&E to his younger brother and Roxane (probably to pique interest for their book, To Please A Lady).
Highly recommended!

A beautiful love story

Do not believe the reviews that say this book is just about sex only! This book does have numerous hot, scorching love scenes, but that's only one of its good qualities. The hero is loyal, honorable, sincere, protective, stops at nothing to keep his heroine safe from harm & happy. About 1/2 way through the book, they declare their love for one another - this doesn't happen in most romances - in most of the ones I've read, the declaration of love is left for the last few pages of the book.

This book had a lot of historical detail, and it was clear to see that Susan Johnson put in time and effort on her historical tellings. The characters are people you care about, and I want to read Robbie's & Roxane's story very soon. It did not bother me that they were prominently featured in the last couple chapters of the book - at that point, Johnnie & Elizabeth weren't ready/able to have physical relations, so why not let Robbie & Roxane have a go at it? I thought it was brilliant.

Other characters I love are Redmond, Elizabeth's friend & former bodyguard, and Munro, Johnnie's cousin. I have no idea if either of these fellas has his own book or not, but I sure hope so!

Another thing I liked about this book was how Susan Johnson showed us that Johnnie was a hardened rake. She didn't just mention it in passing, she showed us scenes of him in the act. (And that role playing scene with one of his mistresses was super hot!). As far as Johnnie & Elizabeth's scorching love scenes went, I loved both the scenes with the dressmaker, the scene with the bedpost, and the scene with the jewel :)

This book had everything - romance, adventure, history, and erotic but not offensive love scenes. I didn't miss the fact that the book, for the most part, isn't technically 'funny'. If you are looking for an out & out humorous read, this isn't the book for you. And, this isn't a cookie cutter, milquetoast romance. This book was excellent, and on a scale of 1-10, it would be at least a 12 for me. Highly recommended. Earns its 5 stars and then some.

Sexy & Romantic!

This is ine of the best SJ novels I have read, in fact my favourite after Brazen.
Johnie has a hard time commiting to Elizabeth and fools around with a lot of women in the first half, but once he marries Liz, becomes a devoted and faithful husband, and the story turns very romantic.
The only problem I had was with the last part of the book, as the attention shifts to Johnie's brother and his lover, who are the protagonists of the sequel to this novel.
Other than that, the book was very erotic as well as romantic.
