DON'T BE FOOLED BY THE FAKE REVIEWS

***Words of warning. I smell a fake reviews***

After skim reading this book, the only thing you would have learnt is how to run a "Hello world" program and that's pretty much it.

Reviews states "it's the perfect study guide", "it's made me a better programmer" and one reviewer even goes as far as stating "he loves the amazing quantity of examples and step by step instructions and would make you an expert in a few lessons" oh please stop it..

Don't be fooled by the fake reviews, there is absolutely NO WAY in the world a 25 page study guide... YES 25 pages, I repeat again... 25 pages could equip anyone with the knowledge and experise to write code.

So what's covered in the book you say?

• A very very brief discussion on the basics and fundamentals as well as history of C++

• Thorough steps in teaching you how to write a "Hello World" program, followed by an in depth breakdown on how it works. The author even teaches you to write a complicated version of the "Hello World" program.

If you're destined to become a C++ programmer in writing "Hello World" programs and nothing else then this 25 page study guide is for you.

There are tons of free resources out there such as video tutorials on Streaming sites and websites that will do a much better job than most of the books on Amazon. One thing you'll learn as a programmer is using search engines such as G... And Y and video tutorials are your friend. I don't really knowing how I feel about this book. What I was expecting was a book that that would help me increase my mental defenses. Very easy to read and powerful effective techniques

Very easy to read and powerful effective techniques. I am a plant based guy with lot of interest in youga, meditation, mind hacks, productivity improvements and this book is wonderful and ties everything to sports psychology. If you are trying to up your game to next level, the book has wonderful techniques. Of course any book is only as good as how you implement things. I am just quoting couple of small paragraphs from the book.
Sports psychology stimulates the mental combat training needed to change your attitude, conquer stress and sharpen your internal processing. The only way to do this is by determining what thoughts or beliefs are holding you back and replacing them with healthy techniques and philosophies. The benefits of this process are endless.
Try meditation. Meditation quiets your mind, allowing your brain to focus on restorative processes. With regular practice, meditation can help your brain learn to shut out certain emotions such as pain or anxiety. This means more of your attention stays on your opponent and what you are.

I love the emphasis on meditation and mindfulness. That was enough to believe the book!

About the Author
Maria Mies is a Marxist feminist scholar who is renowned for her theory of capitalist patriarchy, which recognizes third world women and difference. She is a professor of sociology at Cologne University of Applied Sciences, but retired from teaching in 1993. Since the late 1960s she has been involved with feminist activism. In 1979, at the Institute of Social Studies in The Hague, she founded the Women and Development programme. Her other titles published by Zed Books include The Lace Makers of Narsapur (1982), Women: The Last Colony (1988), The Subsistence Perspective (1999) and Ecofeminism (2014).

Ecofeminists for life?

"Ecofeminism" by Maria Mies and Vandana Shiva is a collection of articles dealing with various aspects of ecofeminism, a relatively new and somewhat controversial philosophy. Ecofeminism isn't a simple combination of Green and feminist ideas. Rather, it's a very specific current, which often runs counter to more regular feminism.

The ecofeminists reject the Enlightenment, the bourgeois revolutions and modern individualism. They also attack modern science for its materialism and reductionism. Women are seen as closer to Nature, and ecofeminists therefore see a connection between patriarchal oppression of women and destruction of the environment. In terms of greenness, ecofeminists could be considered "dark greens" or "fundis", since they seem to reject the entire modern civilization in favour of a society based on subsistence agriculture. Strangely for dark greens, however, they don't consider overpopulation to be a problem.

While ecofeminism is regarded as left-wing (no doubt because of its anti-hierarchic perspective), its anti-Enlightenment, anti-science, communitarian and "organismic" perspective does have obvious affinities with a certain kind of conservative philosophies. And while Mies and Shiva nominally defend the right of abortion, they actually seem to vacillate on the issue. It would seem that they really oppose both abortion and modern contraception (including condoms) in favour of coitus interruptus. This is a very extreme position, reminiscent of certain religious groups. Curiously, there is a mostly-religious group in the United States called Feminists for Life (FFL) which explicitly opposes abortion and is neutral on contraception, no doubt in order to recruit Catholics. Unless I'm mistaken, FFL is loosely associated with a Catholic current known as Consistent Life Ethic. Apparently, the most radical supporters of this current are animal rights activists and vegetarians.

There doesn't seem to be anything in particular precluding a fusion of ecofeminism and the anti-abortion "feminists", except perhaps the traditional left-right divide.

I can't say I like it. I'm a feminist. But apparently, not an ecofeminist for life.

(Since the book is a good introduction to ecofeminism, I gave it five stars despite disagreeing with much of the contents.)

If you call youself a feminist, you need to read this book! It will change the way you think about western feminists and the relationships between nature, women, and capitalism.

Solid information of feminism up to the early 1990's

This book contains a slew of information on feminism up to the early 1990's. Both Mies and Shiva write collectively in the beginning, and then each write individual contributions sorted by chapter. I am a fan of Shiva, and thoroughly enjoy her writing-style. It is informative and very easy to read. She gets her point across well. As for Mies, while extremely informative, her contributions are more accusatory in tone. Her descriptive wording is a bit rough around-the-edges, which, in my opinion, makes her chapters a bit less interesting to read. She lost my attention quite a few times within the first few paragraphs of her chapters. This could also be because I'm extremely interested in the topics Shiva discusses (food security, ecological damage, their direct affectation towards women across the globe) as opposed to those Mies discusses (no war, no nukes, and some first-world womens' issues), so my lack of attention may be a result of my own bias. Regardless, both authors write well and have no difficulty providing excellent information in their chapters.

About the Author
Paul Dini has been making cartoons at Warner Bros. since 1989. Starting with Steven Spielberg Presents Tiny Toons Adventures, he went on to write (and eventually coproduce) Batman: The Animated Series. He won four Emmys, three comics industry Eisner awards, and has, within the space of sixteen years, written more cartoons than most sane people will see in a lifetime. He lives in Los Angeles.

Chip Kidd was born in Reading, PA in 1964. He lives in New York City and Stonington, CT.

A virtual "How To" book on Character Design and Production Art!!!!

First, I'd like to point out that 'Batman: Animated' isn't a "how to draw" book in the strictest sense. However, this book is highly useful and great to have as a reference if you are an artist or illustrator who is into concept/production art. Even if you're not an artist, this book is still impressive if you are a fan of Batman and the animated series. This book has a great design and layout and is easy to follow. Plus, there are many images that make this book more than just "eye candy." This book offers a 'behind the scenes' look at what goes on in making an animated show that has to meet television standards and maintains excellence, spotlight the storytelling and artistry of Paul Dini, Bruce Timm, and the rest of the production crew of Warner Animation.

I remember that I first bought a copy of this book in the early 2000s. I cherished this book and often referred to it for artistic inspiration as well as for repeated reading. I despaired when it was lost and grieved even more when I saw the stratospheric asking prices being asked for replacement copies. Long story short, I saw that Amazon had some for very reasonable prices (below even the original cover price) and I jumped on it. To say that I was happy is an understatement.

I have purchased and enjoyed such Warner Animated series such as Batman Beyond, Superman: The Animated Series, and JLA/JLA Unlimited. I will also purchase the entire Batman: The Animated Series catalog in the near future, especially since it's the one that started it all. This book is an invaluable 'companion piece' and a treasure by itself. I definitely highly recommend it.

If you just can't get enough of Batman The Animated Series, this is definitely for you!

First of all, thank you RentU for your excellent services. I bought this used, condition: Used-Good. I expected something fairly decent, but what I got was unexpectedly great! And extremely fast international delivery despite using Amazon standard global shipping. If not for a couple of "bruises" on the spine and a few dented corners of the hardcover, the inside of the book is basically like new! The price I paid was a steal!

Now, for the product itself: In short, I find it excellent! It's got loads of art from the show, loads of crude sketches from Bruce Timm & other artists that worked on the show, some behind the scenes stuff... I was overwhelmed when I first opened it! And all pages are printed in extremely high quality. The book is pretty large, so you can observe the art in great detail.

I must confess that I am a fan of the Batman animated series. Have been since I was a kid. I couldn't believe it when I discovered this book. For a fan of the original animated series, of Bruce Timm and the universe he created (the Timmverse some call it), this is a must-have item that should not miss from one's library. It almost makes you feel that you've been there, between these great artists, when it was all happening.

If you can get it new at a decent price or used but in very good condition (I was extremely lucky to buy an excellent used copy very cheaply, thanks again RentU) I cannot recommend it more to you.

Amazing book for any Batman The Animated Series fan. I love all the artwork. Beautiful behind the scene look into production and design on the show. Definitely recommend to any Batman fan.
