Incredle book I read in one day!

An incredible book, that I could not put down. The ending was quite the shock. Painful in moments, light in others, I liked how the formatting was done with the two separate journal entries that the text used. I also really enjoyed that the characters were Native Americans, a first for my reading--- and I'm a voracious reader. A must read for anyone wanting a good book

Honouring the legacy

This is the fifth book I've read based in the simulated Milky Way that is part of the Elite: Dangerous game. The plot and character development was well managed by Brookes, drawing me more and more into the story, particularly in the second half of the book. And the climax was truly immersive and gripping.

I found one book versus game inconsistency associated with the Freeholm station, where much of the book is based, but won't say what it is because some might consider it a spoiler (and it can be corrected). The science fiction aspect was completely in line with the game and I was grateful that the story didn't dwell too much on it.

Overall, an engrossing and absorbing read. Let's have more stories from Elite's newer universe!

This book has everything and then some...

This story has everything it's fast-paced, it has so many twists and turns that you don't see coming. The author truly has a gift for conveying the reality of her characters' experiences. Desmond's characters are flawed, gritty and real. With every setback the two main characters faces the reader finds themselves grinning and inwardly saying to themselves, "Oh hell yeah!" The monster in this story is so terrifying one of its victims' it posses literally gouges out his own eyes to rid himself of the horrors he witnessed in his mind.

What was most poignant to me as a reader was how the "real" monster in this story is not of the science fiction variety; instead the true monster here is undoubtedly humanity itself and the truly malicious and evil things we are capable of doing to each other. These atrocious acts prove more harmful and terrifying compared to any monster we could possibly imagine. Brilliant first installment, I absolutely cannot wait for more!! If you're searching for a real page-turner of a novella, then grab a copy of Sixteen. The author has proven herself as a masterful storyteller, both in introducing genuine characters and creating unique plot lines. In a time when one suspense story seems to be a cookie-cutter version of the last, Desmond gives us something crisp and new. One bit of advice: This author knows how to keep readers in suspense, so be prepared to sleep with the lights on.

I love a book which catches me and makes me finish it before doing anything else, this is one that does just that. Living in Wisconsin I loved the tie in's to area's in the state and the characters I swear I have talked with. Can't wait for the next book from this new author.

It's a short book and doesn't go into much depth, but gives you enough to understand a lot of human behaviour and how to get along with people. In many ways it's a much abridged version of the classic "how to win friends and influence people", which is much longer winded and has many more examples, though this book has a little additional content such as information body language and how to tailor your communication for men and women.
