Loving the cat!

This is my review of the first 3 books of the Legacy series.
I downloaded the fist book while on vacation in Jacksonville Beach Florida. The forecast was for rain so I thought I will have something to read while indoors. It was a Amazon recommendation.
I started the book and got pulled in the these colorful characters and this magic users story. I kinda got so into this first book that I didn't notice it never rained, I was hold up reading instead of out playing on the beaches.
I just love the smart moth of the cat!
I have seen Ryan compared to Jim Butcher with humor.
And that is about right, plus, a very good author to be compared to.
I finished the 3 books and I can feel his writing becoming stronger, more mature. With his constant bantering still humorous.
I did find the monsters hard to picture. My thought is that a tiny bit more realistic foes would be more to my liking. I just had hard time picturing all these monsters with so many different animals morphed together. But it took some out of the box thinking to come up,with them.

Monster Rush!

This was an excellent read. It was exciting, emotional (lot of fear and anger and appropriate sadness) and constant action. It was much more than either of the first two volumes, which were both excellent. This one felt almost stuffed - like putting ten pounds of delicious boiled crawfish in a five pound bag. What's to complain about, right ? Well it may have overloaded my synapses with so much so quickly. Great world building, race building and creature building. Wonderful resolution with the heavenly dudes and wonderful creativity in that final scene. One I may have to read again just to absorb it all. Highly recommended for anyone looking for a paranormal tale, a fantasy story or a monster-demon book. Buy it now. You want to be caught up when the next one is ready. And surely you've read the first two installments; if not, you are missing out.

Ryan Attard has done it again with the 3rd installment in the legacy series. Every time I get one of these books I can’t put them down till it’s complete and then I’m scouring the internet tot try to find out how long I have to wait for the next! Book 3 give you just the right combination of action, humor, and just enough sexual conflict to keep you wondering what is going to happen next. Ryan does a great job of making you connect with the characters and before you know it, feel like they are long lost friends of yours. I was one of the lucky individuals who had the chance to read the book before release and I cannot thank you enough for that privilege Ryan.

Its philosophy is rooted in learning by doing (assisted by many model programs), with new scientific materials as well as with the Python programming language. Python has become very popular, particularly for physics education and large scientific projects. It is probably the easiest programming language to learn for beginners, yet is also used for mainstream scientific computing, and has packages for excellent graphics and even symbolic manipulations.

The text is designed for an upper-level undergraduate or beginning graduate course and provides the reader with the essential knowledge to understand computational tools and mathematical methods well enough to be successful. As part of the teaching of using computers to solve scientific problems, the reader is encouraged to work through a sample problem stated at the beginning of each chapter or unit, which involves studying the text, writing, debugging and running programs, visualizing the results, and the expressing in words what has been done and what can be concluded. Then there are exercises and problems at the end of each chapter for the reader to work on their own (with model programs given for that purpose).

About the Author
Rubin H. Landau is Professor Emeritus in the Department of Physics at Oregon State University in Corvallis. He has been teaching courses in computational physics for over 25 years, was a founder of the Computational Physics Degree Program and the Northwest Alliance for Computational Science and Engineering, and has been using computers in theoretical physics research ever since graduate school. He is author of more than 90 refereed publications and has also authored books on Quantum Mechanics, Workstations and Supercomputers, the first two editions of Computational Physics, and a First Course in Scientific Computing.

Manuel J. Paez is a professor in the Department of Physics at the University of Antioquia in Medellin, Colombia. He has been teaching courses in Modern Physics, Nuclear Physics, Computational Physics, Mathematical Physics as well as programming in Fortran, Pascal and C languages. He and Professor Landau have conducted pioneering computational investigations in the interactions of mesons and nucleons with nuclei.

Cristian C. Bordeianu teaches Physics and Computer Science at the Military College "?tefan cel Mare" in Campulung Moldovenesc, Romania. He has over twenty years of experience in developing educational software for high school and university curricula. He is winner of the 2008 Undergraduate Computational Engineering and Science Award by the US Department of Energy and the Krell Institute. His current research interests include chaotic dynamics in nuclear multifragmentation and plasma of quarks and gluons.

A Head of Its Time

I read this poetry collection years ago and marveled at the brilliance and wit Laing tooled into each poem.

Nothing else before or since so perfectly caught the efficiency and momentum and horror of circular thinking.

I'd bet a neuroscientist somewhere has by our time used a CAT scan or some other wonder to map a human mind thinking this way thus forming what appears beautiful recursive cascades.

I'd would guess that a psychology/computer programmer double major genius might have actually worked out ones and zeros to have a Deep Blue somewhere write something that appears as good as Laing's poetry.

For such strawmen who might so be tricked, many folks earlier saw no difference between a painting by an ape and a modern abstract expressionist--which was a shortcoming in the viewer not the artist.

Such patterns can be insightful in verse and beautiful in a brief video but I can't see anyone really wanting to be trapped in such loops.

My guess we all dip a toe in the whirlpool of circular thinking which can make us feel rotten. Circular thinking doesn't go anywhere, A gyre spins up or down or out or in--the mind at least goes somewhere. Reading about circular thinking in others is like seeing someone slip on ice--we laugh to see someone demonstrating just how mechanical a mind or body can be.

So I'm proposing a reading of Knots as possibly carrying a very beneficial side effect--a reading might alert us to patterns that can really knot up our own life.

A unique book. It is meant to make you think as you read, and illustrate how many of our relationships are built on assumptions and attitudes which are not necessary, or even rational. Read a page, and stop to think which relationship you know which follows the pattern you just read.

Not for me...maybe for you.

Not for me...better to read with others and discuss. Quality of the printing of the book was poor, and that didn't help. Some of the poems (if you want to call them that) had arrows like a flow chart. Confusing at best.

A fun and enlightening introdution to computational logic.

The Little Prover is a great introduction to computation logic. I really enjoy it because of its format, its pacing, and its ability to explain core concepts in mathematics and computer programming.

I like The Little Prover's question-and-answer format. It encourages me to write and understand proofs for myself, because the format explains the steps when I get stuck, and it helps me understand the significance of the steps when I succeed.

The Little Prover was very well paced. More complicated proofs are introduced at a rate that keeps them challenging and interesting but never impossible.

The way The Little Prover covers computational logic means I am able to relate it to my A-Level standard knowledge of proof in mathematics (A-Levels are the English equivalent of American high school). The book doesn't just show you how to use a computer program to do certain things, but relates what you're doing to concepts like inductive proof and recursion.

The format of The Little Prover is very similar to the other books in the Little series such as The Little Schemer. I highly recommend those too. The Little Prover also contains many ideas found in How to Design Programs (HtDP). For example the programs in The Little Prover clearly all use design recipes from HtDP and concepts such as natural recursion are mentioned in both HtDP and The Little Prover.

The Little Prover was published just a few months ago and when I learned it's getting published I pre-ordered a bunch of copies not just for myself but for all my friends. I was that excited!

The Little Prover teaches the readers how to determine facts about recursive functions using induction. The book starts with programming concepts such as recursive functions and lists, and leads the reader along the shortest path to inductive proofs. It assumes knowledge of neither logic nor mathematics beyond arithmetic. Just like all other books in the series, it's written as a dialog between the authors and you in a super fun style with a lot of jokes and insider references. This book will make you think from page one and it will stretch your mind quite a bit.

You'll learn about axioms, theorems, what it means for something to be true in computing, conjectures, claims, counterexamples, total functions, partial functions, conjunctions, induction, natural recursion, and more.

While working through this book, you'll need j-bob, the proof assistant:

Teach Yourself Visually Access 2013

This book is best for the beginner or intermediate software user. The book is easy to read and is without all the heavy jargon that some books have which make software intimidating to some. The book has lots of pictures which makes it easy to learn . In my humble opinion this is the best way to learn a software program.

Easy to read format, but lacks content. A basic text on the nuts and bolts of working with Access. I miss in the text something more on building data relationships as well as more on forms and reports. But, again this book does not pretend to be anything else than a very readable, basic text (and pics) on Access. As such it deserves 4 stars. If you are looking for a detailed manual, try something else.

Yes - Teach Yourself VISUALLY

This book is for introductory to intermediate levels although at times it introduces some more advanced concepts. If you are an IT person this may serve as a refresher but you may not get much out of it. However, if you are starting with Access this is a very good book. I see a lot of business folks getting a lot of use. the book is small and easy to get through. Very visual as the title states and you can easily get through a couple of chapters a day.

Interesting treatise of a boring subject

This book is the required text for Advanced Aviation Economics in the MBA program at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University. Doganis applies the tedious study of microeconomics specifically to the airline industry. My only complaint is that for an industry which changes everyday, the data are somewhat stale. Hence, my three star rating. Although there is a smattering of 2009 facts in the book. However, the book should have a yearly update. Fortunately, there is a great deal of supplemental data available free of charge from a multitude of airline industry websites.
